SAHARA – France’s position “is clear”, it supports the Moroccan plan of autonomy, says Edouard Philippe (Video)

On the Sahara conflict, the Prime Minister Edouard Philippe made a crystal clear statement. He reaffirmed in Rabat, on Thursday, France’s support for the Moroccan plan of autonomy as “a serious and credible basis for a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution” to the 42-year dispute. 

 France also reiterated its support for the efforts deployed within the framework of the United Nations to reach a political solution to this issue, underlines the final declaration of the 13th Morocco-France High Level Meeting held in Rabat.

In this final declaration, Morocco and France stress the importance of re-launching of the political process led by the United Nations, on the base of the parameters defined by the Security Council, as reaffirmed by the Security Council Resolution 2351 of April 28, 2017.

France welcomes Morocco’s willingness to work to this end with the new personal Envoy of UN Secretary-General, Horst Kohler, the final declaration adds.

The 13th Morocco-France high-level meeting was co-chaired in Rabat on Thursday by the head of government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani, and the French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe.

Several agreements concerning various areas of cooperation were signed at the end of this meeting which has given new impetus to the exceptional partnership between Morocco and France since the last high-level meeting held in 2015 in Paris.
