The booth of the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) at the 28th edition of the International Exhibition of Publishing and Book Publishing (SIEL), presented during the programming of its second day, a debate about freedom of thought.
On this very important debate, Amina Bouayach said in a speech that: This issue is a delicate concern for us as defenders of human rights, because with the technological development and the technological industry, we are greatly concerned about the imposition of solutions, methods, technological tools and means to our freedom of thought and our independence in expressing our opinions and our choices.”
+ “Fatima Mernissi, the invisible thread of feminism” +
In a first literary part, the CNDH booth proposed the analysis of Mr. Ahmed Farid Merini’s essay entitled “Fatima Mernissi, the invisible thread of feminism”.
In his work, the author brings us into the world of Fatema Mernissi through embroidery and weaving which are practices that seem repetitive, at first glance anchored in traditional society, but yet are addressed by Fatema Mernissi, as a means of expressing a rebellion of women and a quest for liberation from the “hudud”, borders or limits imposed by patriarchal society.
In a statement to Article19.ma, the doctor, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst took the opportunity to appeal “Our young people should be able to read his books, because it brings something precious of an unusual and particular nature, which allows us to think about the question of women in Morocco, and beyond the question of freedom, democracy, how we can think of a Morocco, but from ourselves while being open abroad”.
+ “Freedom to Think” +
Following the presentation of the first book, the Council booth debated the book “Freedom to Think – Protecting a Fundamental Human Rights in the Digital Age” Susie Alegre, a British lawyer specializing in human rights and technology.
Susie Alegre, said at Article19.ma: “For the past five years or so, I have been working on the right to freedom of thought and the ways in which the digital world is manipulating and making fragile our freedom of thought in ways in which we are not conscious.”
In this debate moderated by Mr. Ali Bouzerda, director of Article19.ma, author Susie Alegre revealed that: “My book talks about the history of freedom of thought, the history of human rights, and why, it’s so important that we work on human rights, and then identify the vulnerability of information shared on social networks.”
The lawyer gives as an example of the manipulation of people in her book, the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal where the personal data of 87 million Facebook users were exploited by the company Cambridge Analytica (CA) from the beginning of 2014.
