Morocco Is An African Power, Says Nicolas Sarkozy

Morocco is an African power and its return to its institutional family is very important for Africa, said on Friday former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. “The return to the African Union is very important for Morocco which plays the role of a bridge between Europe and Africa. It is also very important for Africa because it is a modern economy, a stable and democratic country on the African scene,” Sarkozy said in a live interview at the opening session of the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla. Morocco stands out as a major element, noted the former head of state, adding that the failure of Africa will be the tragedy of Europe and its success will be the “survival” of the European continent. What Morocco is doing is quite unique, if you look at the last 15 years, you will see that the Arab-Muslim world was not spared and that the Mediterranean was ravaged. Which countries can claim to have kept its stability, openness, progress and modernity despite the difficulties, crises, and failures, and can pretend to equal the Moroccan stability over the past years? he wondered. “Who can say to have had the chance of a real revolutionary discourse on the modification of the Constitution, the progress of democracy, the opening on the diverse Moroccan political forces? It is Morocco, strong and stable”, added Sarkozy, noting that Morocco, thanks to its political, historical and geographical position, plays a major role and “we must work together to develop Africa”. The fourth edition of the Crans Montana Forum opened, Friday under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, with the participation of over 1,000 guests and senior officials representing more than 100 countries.

The opening ceremony of this edition, held for the fourth consecutive time in the Moroccan southern city of Dakhla, was marked by a message sent by HM the King to the participants, read by president of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Ynja Khattat.
