Puzzling – Morocco’s oil prospection near Tarfaya « worries » the Canary Islands government

Morocco’s oil prospections in the waters of the southern area of Tarfaya seem to bother the Canary Islands authorities on account of the latest agreement with Italian group ENI that aims at launching a number of oil exploration operations offshore.

The Canary local government urged Madrid to look into Morocco’s decision over oil exploration in “Tarfaya Offshore Shallow” which covers Sidi Ifni, Tan Tan and Tarfaya coasts, Casablanca-based “L’Economiste” newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Canarian oil exploration experts, however, expressed their “great concern” following Morocco’s decision, claiming that this latter will affect the people on both sides, L’Economiste added.

It is noteworthy that the said agreement covers Moroccan maritime waters only; therefore, Moroccan people have failed to see how this oil exploration can be disturbing to the Canary Islands local government, an energy expert said.
