The National Human Rights Council of Morocco at the International Book Fair: An anthem dedicated to all forms of expression of rights

By Ms. Amina Bouayach, President of The National Human Rights Council of Morocco.

Beyond the impact of the health crisis which we have gone through at both social and economic levels, the crisis has certainly revealed several weaknesses but also resilient resources of our contemporary societies. This unprecedented experience, characterized by physical and social distancing and confinement has led us to readapt in unprecedented manner our mission as an institution responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights.

How to guarantee rights and freedoms in our emerging democratic society model while trying hard to come out of this pandemic crisis?

How to struggle against isolation which has weakened persons and more vulnerable communities and how to reinforce solidarity and be more careful to initiatives among them those which express forgotten and landlocked enclaves, to elaborated and organized claims regionally and nationally?

How to re-define the promotion of human rights culture and give it back its deserved position, not only as a susceptible ornament to satisfy certain enlightened minds, but as a vital requirement to express respect for dignity, right for culture and democracy?

Several days after the publication of our 2021 annual report, which has outlined condition of human rights in our country which is coming afresh out of the health crisis, we hope to devote space – time which we will be moderating at the International Book Fair (SIEL) 27th session to all expressions of right.

The National Human Rights Council of Morocco (CNDH) stand will host all forms of expression of rights which our vital society could allow to express, in its diversity and, at the same time, in terms of viewpoints, social categories to include writers, artists, experts, decision-makers and civil society NGOs activists.

We will also explore our ambition to arrange with our institutional partners and associations how to manage time at the fair, to have an anthem dedicated to rights and dignity .. an anthem that has the power of the verb, testimony of works, sensibilities and esthetics of all kinds of arts expressions.

All kinds of forms, all languages and all voices will find some place at the Human Rights National Council stand, it will be an open space and inclusive to express topics of current events and subjects of major stake carried by the council: Children’s rights, right to health, youth, right to education, migration, women’s rights, freedom of expression and associations, reconciliation of memories and history, cultural legacy and diversity, AI and DI, right of persons in handicapped condition, death penalty and human rights…

Prominent writers, who were distinguished by several awards, will illustrate new axis to promote African cultures, by relying on oral traditions and will reevaluate African languages as cultural legacies to preserve, on oral discussion as a pattern of solving outreach conflicts, and on innovative dispositions in terms of circulation and availability of cultural tools to eccentric communities.

We will be obliged not only to make out a report on specific questions and to share diagnosis elements, but we will also attempt to take a different view from established viewpoints and formulate without concessions new questions taking into account societal evolutions, in order to renew our advocacy and lay down the bases for new practices in favor of a struggle for equality and respect of human rights.

Let this anthem for expression of rights enlighten us to consolidate the efficiency of rights.
