Prison Administration Investigates Recording Attributed to Detainee Nasser Zefzafi

The General Delegation of Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) said it has sent on Thursday a commission to “Ras El Ma” local prison in Fez to open an administrative inquiry to investigate a recording attributed to detainee Nasser Zefzafi, who is behind bars as part of Al-Hoceima events, and which was shared on social media and by some websites. The investigation will determine responsibility at the administration of the penal institution and among its officials and take the necessary measures against anyone who has failed in his professional duty, as provided by law, as well as against the concerned detainee, DGAPR said Friday in a release.

An initial investigation showed that the concerned prisoner had pretended to speak with his relatives to preserve family ties, the source pointed out, adding that the concerned prisoner as well as others, belonging to the same category and detained at the same penal institution, refused to comply with officers’ orders to go to their prison cells and assaulted some officials. These officials have undergone medical examinations at Fez University Hospital Center and have filed a complaint with the competent prosecutor.

The concerned detainees refused to obey on the pretext that one of them was not allowed to have a telephone call with his relatives, whereas this prisoner had used this right on the same day, the source said, adding that the prison’s administration has notified the competent public prosecutor, in writing, of these facts. “In order to maintain good order and discipline at this penal institution, the DGAPR will take the necessary measures against these prisoners,” the source added.
