Morocco Foils Drug Smuggling Operation, Seizes nearly 7 Tons of Cannabis Resin

The Central Bureau for Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) has foiled a drug smuggling operation and arrested the ringleader as well as six suspects in the city of Casablanca. The BCIJ has also seized nearly 7 tons of cannabis resin that was loaded into a medium-duty truck and two utility vehicles, the BCIJ pointed out in a statement.

A sum of 204,630 Dirhams was also seized, the source said, adding that the drug’s packaging reveals that the banned substance was intended to be smuggled by sea and that the existence of 8 distinctive marks on the shipments seized refers to the involvement of several traffickers in this operation. Investigations are underway, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, to identify all individuals involved in this operation and shed light on national ramifications and possible links with international criminal networks, it said.
