Security Cooperation: Spain Enjoys ‘Excellent’ Relationship with Morocco (Spanish State Secretary)
Spain enjoys a “privileged” and “excellent” cooperation with Morocco in the security area, Spain’s State Secretary for Security, Ana Maria Botella, said Monday in Madrid. There is a “traditional cooperation between the security forces and the intelligence services of both countries in the fight against terrorism,” Botella pointed out at a forum held in the Spanish capital.
Because of their geographical proximity, Spain and Morocco are facing the same security challenges, including terrorism, illegal immigration and other forms of organized crime, she added. Botella noted the importance that Spain attaches to international security cooperation, saying that cooperation in this area between Madrid and Rabat is “fundamental”.
She also referred to the new Spanish National Counter-Terrorism Strategy, which provides a unified and up-to-date reference framework for preventing, combating and responding to the threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism. This new strategy adapts to the new situation in the fight against terrorism. It is also in accordance with the European Union Counter Terrorism Strategy and the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
