Funeral Held for Maren Ueland, One of Imlil Double Murder Victims
A funeral was held Monday in Norway for Maren Ueland, one of the two Scandinavian tourists murdered last December in the village of Imlil (Province of El Haouz). The service ceremony was held at Time Church in Jæren, in the presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Norway, Lamia Radi, Norwegian health minister Bent Høie, the victim’s family members and friends, as well as dozens of students.
During the ceremony, Radi reiterated the heartfelt condolences of Moroccans for the loss of the Norwegian student, noting that “no word can alleviate the immense amount of suffering inflicted on Maren, nor relieve the pain of her family.” The diplomat reiterated Morocco’s call for a united world where Muslims, Christians and Jews stand together to fight all forms of extremism.
In this regard, the ambassador recalled the speech of HM King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, in which the Sovereign said that ‘those who engage in terrorism, in the name of Islam, are not Muslims. Their only link to Islam is the pretexts they use to justify their crimes and their folly. They have strayed from the right path, and their fate is to dwell forever in hell.” In an emotional message, the mother of the victim said that she and her family knew that the Moroccan people had nothing to do with these murderers, adding that “these terrorists who wanted to separate Norwegians and Moroccans have failed because we are stronger now and we will not give in.”
She also called on Morocco’s ambassador to Norway to convey “this message of peace to Moroccans”. The funeral of Danish tourist Louisa Vesterager Jespersen took place on January 12 in Denmark.
