Exclusive – Madeleine Albright warns against “modern fascism” on the light of her participation at the Atlantic Dialogues meeting

President of “Albright Stonebridge Group”, and former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, took part in the Atlantic Dialogues meeting, held by the “Moroccan think thank Policy Center for the New South”, this Thursday in Marrakech.

On the light of her participation at the event, Albright introduced her new book “Fascism: a warning”, and stated the following:

“Fascism: a warning” is a book that goes back in history in order to examine fascism as a concept.

Fascism rose to the surface at the end of World War One, when most people in Europe and the rest of the world were living an unprecedented state of misery and hardships.

Under such circumstances, the floor was all set for infamous world leaders such as Benito Mussolini and Francisco Franco to gain power in both Italy and Spain, where the first ever fascist regimes in history have been established.

The book, however, tends to focus on the modern version of fascism in countries like Hungry, Venezuela, Poland and Turkey.

As for the book’s title, I emphasized the word “warning” in order to bring people’s attention to the fact that they might be living under a fascist regime, without actually realizing it.

A fascist government can be defined as a self-centered political body that adopts ideologies unlikely to improve the lives of its people, for priority goes to promoting one side (the majority) at the expense of another.

Unlike fascism, democracy does not always favor majorities, as it tends to preserve the rights of minorities as well.
