Membership – Morocco’s admission at the heart of ECOWAS debates in Abuja

Morocco has not yet been admitted to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which is holding its 52nd summit this weekend in Abuja. But it is at the heart of the debates, sources said on Sunday.

At the 51st Ordinary Session held in June in Monrovia, Liberia, ECOWAS agreed in principle to Morocco’s accession and ordered a commission to examine its impact.

As the study on the impact of the accession of Morocco had been completed its result is now the subject of intense discussions between all the parties concerned.

In the meantime, Morocco is preparing itself for early 2018 to act consequently to the final decision of the ECOWAS’ Heads of State.
