Morocco exposed to 80 thousand cyber-attacks, and “Inwi” launches its first center for security operations

Moroccan telecommunication company, Inwi, revealed that Morocco is not immune to cyber-attacks, noting that Moroccan operators were subject to 80 thousand “DDoS” type attacks in 2017 alone.

This type of cyber-attacks tends to disrupt services and infrastructures, through dumping data, Inwi sources said.

On the sidelines of a press conference held on Thursday in Casablanca, Inwi claimed that 400 e-commerce websites were subjects to cyber-attacks in 2018, while over 3 million attempted piracies were recorded the same year.

In addition, Inui introduced all companies and national institutions to a series of information security solutions in partnership with international leaders within the field of telecommunications as recommended by Inwi’s Center for Security Operations in collaboration with “Symantec”, the world leader in information security.

The Center for Security Operations, which came into service a year ago, is the first of its kind in Morocco, and the only one to date, that serves as a very advanced infrastructure capable of monitoring, analyzing and preparing responses on daily and hourly bases.

This center aims at ensuring continuous monitoring to allow the re-operation of any information system under attack in a record time.

“We are pleased to showcase the development that has taken place since our inception in the field of information security a year ago. Our center is an independent mechanism supported by local expertise, and its services include Morocco as a whole”, Director of marketing for communications, cloud storage and information defense, Sammy Andaloussi, said in a press conference.

Andaloussi added that the center will contribute effectively to protecting Moroccan enterprises against cyber-attacks, as well as enhancing Morocco’s Information defensive scope.

It is noteworthy that Inwi’s center for Security Operations has established “The first national observatory for information security” one year after its inauguration, as the latter has issued a reference document that monitors and analyzes the most important weaknesses and information attacks registered in Morocco.
