Rabat-Salé TRAM Has Carried over 273 Mln Passengers Since Entering Service

The Rabat-Salé Tramway has transported more than 273 million passengers since its commissioning in May 2011, said the Tramway Company (STRS).

The network records an average of 110,000 trips per day (working days), according to figures provided to the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) by STRS, adding that Saturday and Sunday traffic averages 70,000 trips per day, while annual traffic reaches 32.9 million passengers.

Revenues generated through the sale of unit tickets are always the most important and represent 73% of the total revenue, added the same source which accounts for 17,341 active subscription contracts, 54% of which are from students.

The company reported a “good” financial performance since 2012, even though urban transport systems are in deficit worldwide due to urban public transport fares that should meet socially acceptable standards.
