Mohammed V Airport: Police Arrest Italian Subject of International Arrest Warrant Issued by Belgian Authorities

Police at the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca arrested a 19-year-old Italian national on Monday, pursuant to an international arrest warrant issued against him by the Belgian judicial authorities in a case of theft with a weapon, said the national police (DGSN).

The checking operations revealed that the suspect, arrested upon arrival on board a flight from Canada, is the subject of a Red Notice issued by Interpol on 05 August, at the request of the Belgian judicial authorities, with a view to applying a four-year prison sentence for his involvement, last March, in a case of attempted theft of two houses, the DGSN noted in a statement.

The suspect was held in police custody as part of the extradition procedure, while the competent Belgian authorities were notified of his arrest, according to the same source.
