Investigation – Oujda City Council committee reveals the unknown behind outlawed Islamist Al Adl Wa Al Ihssane leader’s walls

A controversy. The logistic committee for irregularities and violations within Oujda City Council has issued a report stating that the property owned by Al Adl Wa Al Ihssane leader in Oujda has been recently condemned by the authorities in charge for violation of legal procedures.

The property, however, has an authorization for habitation only; yet, it has been completely converted into “an illegal mosque”, the Arabic Achkayn news website reported on Saturday.

According to the report, which Achkayn has obtained a copy, the property has undergone several changes that the real estate authorities have not authorized in the first place. In addition, the property has been exploited in a way that violates the laws in force.

On the light of these recent developments, the local governor gave his orders to condemn the property, before deciding to demolish it for violating the Royal Decree on Places for Worship.

During inspections, the committee revealed that the property (originally meant for housing) has actually undergone a series of modifications, for the basement alone has turned into a worship space that can contain 300 people at least; while the second floor was reserved for women and the third floor for ablution rituals.

For its part, Al Adl Wa Al Ihssane group stated that the local authorities have violated the state’s laws and regulations by breaking into the property that fellow member, Lotfi Hassani, legally owns.

Al Adl Wa Al Ihssane statement stressed that the local authorities have “raided” the property and tended to break its doors, before shutting it down, following allegations stating that the said property was used for group meetings and collective Koran readings.

The Islamist group has also noted that such measure has been taken at a very sensitive time and place, for injustice has been growing larger, touching all social groups and classes.
