Sahara Issue – Togo Reiterates Support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative

Togo reiterated Monday before the 4th United Nations Commission its support for Morocco’s initiative to grant broad autonomy to the Sahara, describing it as a “constructive step necessary to resolve this crisis”.

“This approach reflects Morocco’s sincere willingness to contribute to the United Nations’ efforts to achieve a peaceful and compromise solution, and has the merit of representing the right balance of the expectations of the parties concerned,” said permanent representative of Togo to the United Nations, Kokou Kpayedo, in his address at a meeting of the Committee in New York.

Togo supports the ongoing political process, conducted under the auspices of the United Nations, which aims to achieve a negotiated and mutually acceptable political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara, he stressed.
