Russian Ambassador in Rabat Praises Development of Relations between Morocco & Russia

The new ambassador of Russia in Rabat Valerian Shuvaev praised, Tuesday, the development of relations between his country and Morocco since the decision of the two head of States to raise them to the level of a deep strategic partnership.

During talks with speaker of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, the diplomat said that Morocco and Russia have exceptional relations in the political, economic and educational fields, stressing the importance of existing opportunities to promote cooperation between the two countries.

According to a statement by the House of Representatives, the Russian official highlighted the significant role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations, notably through intensifying consultations and visits between the two countries’ MPs.

For his part, El Malki said that the Moroccan-Russian relations are marked by mutual respect and continuous dialogue, noting that bilateral links are witnessing a new momentum, after the historic visit of HM King Mohammed VI to Russia in 2016 and President Poutine’s visit to the kingdom in 2006.

He also stressed that the two countries share the same founding principles of the United Nations system, based on the consolidation of the values of peace, security and cooperation and the preservation of the unity of peoples and the territorial integrity of States.

At the parliamentary level, the speaker of the House of Representatives called for the creation of a Moroccan-Russian parliamentary forum that would serve as a platform to deepen dialogue and discuss issues of common interest.
