The Rabat-Salé Tramway Company (STRS) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a loan agreement worth 40 million Euros to finance the extension of the Rabat-Salé tramway.

The project consists of the extension of the line 2 of the Rabat-Salé tramway on a total length of 7 km and 12 stops, STRS said in a release.

The project is expected to increase the usage of Rabat-Salé tramway by 35% and reduce emissions by 4,500 tonnes of CO2e a year. It will help to make Rabat-Salé a low-carbon city with commitments in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.

The design of the tramway, integrated in the cityscape, will also improve the urban environment, limiting pollution and offering a higher level of service to users.

HM King Mohammed VI launched on October 23, 2017, the line 2 extension project of the Rabat-Salé tramway.

The Rabat-Salé tramway carries around 110,000 people daily, a total of 197 million travellers since its launch.
