Morocco blasts Polisario threats via securing “Africa Race” Rally to Mauritania

A successful operation. Participants at the “Africa Race” Rally have succeeded in crossing the buffer zone leading to Mauritania safely, despite the Polisario front’s threats to intercept their way.

Morocco tended to bring the attention of the Security Council’s 15 members to the seriousness of these threats as the Polisario front continues to deploy more armed separatists at Guergarat area in particular. In addition, Morocco urged the Security Council to call upon the Polisario to leave the said area immediately and unconditionally.

“All participants have crossed the Mauritanian border successfully via Guergarat as the race took place in the best of circumstances,” said Mohamed Al-Khatabi, a member of Africa Race organising committee; adding: “My car was the last car crossing the border, and, we are all now in Mauritania.”

It is noteworthy that the UN’s Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has warned the Polisario front against obstructing commercial activities in Guergarat area as well as breaching its commitment to cease fire.
