Coopération – Morocco, Niger Hold 4th Joint Bilateral Commission in Rabat

Morocco and Niger held, on Tuesday in Rabat, the 4th session of the joint bilateral commission.

The meeting was co-chaired by minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and his Nigerien peer, Ibrahim Yacoubou, in the presence of several members of the governments of the two countries and Moroccan and Nigerien businessmen.

Speaking at the opening of this meeting, Bourita praised the vitality and richness of the Moroccan-Nigerien partnership, underlining that the 4th bilateral commission takes place in a particular context marked by the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This commission, which reflects the richness and the diversity of the links uniting the two countries that are based in particular on human ties, friendship, fraternity, solidarity and mutual trust, is able to give new impetus to relations between the two countries in order to establish a strategic and global partnership, he said.

It will also consolidate the achievements of this partnership, said the minister, highlighting the strong and clear position of Niger on the issue of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, as being one of the African countries that have never recognized the pseudo SADR, as well as the support of Niamey for the return of Morocco to the African Union and its request to join ECOWAS.

Bourita also recalled the visits of HM King Mohammed VI to this country and the solidarity of the Kingdom with Niger in difficult times, especially through the delivery of urgent aid, noting that bilateral cooperation is called upon to involve private sectors in both countries.

Furthermore, the Moroccan official said that Niger is a key element for stability and security in the Sahel region, recalling that the country faces many security and development challenges and is suffering the consequences of the region’s destabilization.

For his part, the Nigerien FM thanked Morocco for its support and active solidarity with Niger, noting that this joint commission reflects the fruitful and multifaceted cooperation which continues to develop over the years between the two countries.

Morocco and Niger are working together to make their bilateral relations a model of partnership at the African level as part of South-South cooperation, said Yacoubou.

He also praised Morocco’s achievements in the various fields under the leadership of HM the King, noting that his country wants to be inspired and benefit from the experience and know-how of the Kingdom, a model of development and stability in the continent.

The return of Morocco within its African family is an additional asset for the action of the pan-African organization, he stressed.

The 4th session of the Moroccan-Nigerien bilateral commission was marked by the signing of 16 cooperation agreements covering the economic, legal, cultural, health and transport areas.
